Freddy Cannon

Freddy Cannon Among Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon's national and international hit records are "Tallahassee Lassie," "Palisades Park," "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans," "Where the Action Is," and "Abigail Beecher." Freddy's mother, Annette Picariello, wrote "Tallahassee Lassie" and Chuck Barris (of "Gong Show" fame) wrote "Palisades Park."

In 1970 Freddy retired from performing to go into the management end of the record business. A year later, however, the first rock 'n' roll revival show was held in Madison Square Gardens and he was invited to be part of the show.

When Freddy went into a litany of his old hits, more than 20,00 fans screamed their approval and at the same time convinced him that he should be performing full time.

Since then Freddy has been booked solid all over the country as the rock revival craze continues.

Freddy has appeared on all of the major TV talk shows. He has performed his songs on "Solid Gold," "American Bandstand," "Where the Action Is" (that's Freddy singing the theme song).

Freddy has appeared in several movies, including "Just for Fun" and the cult classic "Village of the Giants" starring Ron Howard, Tommy Kirk and Mickey Rooney, Jr. He has been in most of the rock and roll specials in the current years, including "Rock Rolls On" and Dick Clark's 25th and 30th Anniversary shows. Freddy has been doing Dick Clark's live "Good Ol' Rock 'n' Roll" shows since 1974.

The major influences on Freddy's career have been Big Joe Turner and Chuck Berry.

The Tokens    (Not appearing at every show. See schedule below)

The TokensIf you remember the 50's, 60's and 70's you will remember The Tokens. Their name stands out among the rest of the great groups from that era. Their recording of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" enjoys a permanent place in Rock N' Roll's Hall of Fame. But, there is a lot more to this group than most people realize. The Tokens are one of the most versatile attractions on the circuit today. Their shows carry a wide variety of music going from ‘Doo-Wop' to Motown to all-time favorites from the 30's and 40's...this is truly one of the finest entertaining groups anywhere.

Let's go back to 1961. July to be exact. This was the magic year for them. They released their first record titled "Tonight I Fell In Love" and it reached all the Top Charts landing in the Top 20. In December of that same year they recorded a song called "Tonight"...it was released in early 1962 and went to #1 in the nation. It was one of only 6 recordings to be certified GOLD the entire year. In the years that followed they added more than a dozen Million Sellers to their credits. The most prominent being, "A Portrait Of My Love" which also achieved GOLD status.

These recordings were only a small part of what The Tokens contributed to the recording industry. They were the first group to use the falsetto voice successfully and were copied by artists such as The Beach Boys and The Four Seasons. They were the first group to produce themselves and the first to play all their own background music. Later they signed a production deal with Laurie Records and their first production went to #1..."He's So Fine" by the Chiffons. They followed with another smash recording titled "One Fine Day." Soon after they opened their own label, B.T. Puppy Records. They then produced The Happenings whose hits included "See You In September," "Go Away Little Girl" and "I Got Rhythm." In the 70's they were responsible for "Candida," "Knock Three Times" and "Tie A Yellow Ribbon (Round The Old Oak Tree) recorded by Tony Orlando and Dawn. They were the voices for Benson & Hedges (silly millimeter longer), Miss Clairol (she lets her hair down), Pan Am (makes the going great), General Foods (Great Shakes), Wrigley's Chewing Gum, Sunkist (good vibrations) and Wendy's.

Jay & The Techniques

Jay ProctorIn 1966, Philadelphia Songwriter and Producer JERRY ROSS signed a production deal with the Mercury family of labels. The deal was basic: find new talent and groom them for stardom. Among his discoveries were Keith ("98.6"), Spanky & Our Gang ("Sunday Will Never Be The Same") and Bobby Hebb, whose "Sunny" was one of the biggest hits of the year.Seeking a surefire follow up for Bobby, Ross came across a demo of a song by Maurice Irby called "Apple, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie". When Hebb passed, Ross matched the song with another new discovery: Jay & the Techniques.

Jay & the Techniques hailed from Allentown, Pennsylvania, The group was born when lead vocalist Jay Proctor and second vocalist George "Lucky" Lloyd teamed with an all-white band, one of the first integrated groups in pop music. The Techniques included Chuck Crowl (bass), Karl Landis (drums), Ronnie Goosley (sax), Jon Walsh (trumpet) and Dante Dancho (lead guitar). Paul Coles, Jr. and Danny Altieri soon replaced Landis and Walsh respectively, while Jack Truett was added on organ. As Jerry Ross often did on his sessions, Nick Ashford, Valerie Simpson and Melba Moore were used as back up singers.

With "Apple, Peaches, Pumpkin, Pie" the group found the right mix of rhythm & blues and bubble gum appeal and vaulted into the Top Ten. Denny Randell and Sandy Lizner, out of producer Bob Crewe's stable of writers, supplied "Keep the Ball Rollin' ", the groups successful follow-up. Singles like "Strawberry Shortcake" and "Baby Make Your Own Sweet Music" continued the groups pop fortune. while there albums showed versatility with a more pronounced " northern soul sound, " a combination of Motown beat with Philly production. That blend became one of Jay & the Techniques strong points and this compilation shows off some overlooked classic tracks.

When the Seventies rolled around and disco became fashionable, Jay & the Techniques were ready with their already danceable sound. Barry White's "I Feel Love Coming On" kicked off this resurgence on the Silver Blue label. The record was picked up by Event Records, which also issued the group's "Number Onederful."

In 1996 Mercury Records released a very ambitious and fantastic 20 song CD collection "Best of Jay & the Techniques" CD. In September Jay had the honor of performing at the Rock'N'Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

1998 saw the release of "The Main Course", the first all new studio album by Jay in over 20 years.

Merrilee Rush

Merrilee Rush"Angel of the Morning." The mere mention of this legendary record triggers a flood of memories for the millions who bought it, and inevitably evokes the name of the artist for whom it meant overnight success: Merrilee Rush. But for those devoted legions who have flocked to see Merrilee since 1962, her success was anything but overnight. Indeed it was proof positive that talent and dedication can reap a just reward and that good guys can finish first.

For Merrilee was then, and remains today, an astonishing tribute to true commitment to her career and to her fans. As countless groups and artists came and went, Merrilee endured. Literally millions who have seen Merrilee perform live stand witness to an unparalleled record of achievement. A number one single in seven countries. Sold out shows. Out of an entire generation of great Pacific Northwest acts, she was the only one to receive her industry's highest honor—a Grammy Nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year.

But beyond the Gold records, her Hot 100 singles and albums, the string of successful TV appearances and all the notoriety accompanying them, there is Merrilee Alive: One-On-One, an explosion that has generated more than 20 years of packed houses and an army of fans who know that Merrilee Alive is what entertaining is all about.

Raised in the Pacific Northwest, Merrilee now lives in the countryside near Seattle. She lives on the farm once owned by her grandfather and attends to her may interests. Merrilee continues to perform with her own band and with Seattle Women in Rhythm & Blues.

In 1989, Merrilee's lifetime musical achievements were honored by the Northwest Area Musicians' Association. NAMA bestowed upon her their highest award, induction into the prestigious NAMA Hall of Fame.

Merrilee's many gifts and talents continue to earn her great praise and high awards. But for those of us who love her and have been blessed by her talents, the highest place she'll ever hold is the same place she's held for so long—the place in our hearts.
