Mustang Sally consists of six extremely talented young ladies, a truckload of musical instruments, a veritable arsenal of great songs and a stage show that rocks. It is a recipe that has been drawing crowds from coast to coast. From classic country to Southern rock, Mustang Sally is hot, hip and cool. The girls are based in Nashville, but hail from big cities and small towns across the country. They have pooled their many talents to create what is arguably the best all-girl touring band in the nation. Together roughly four years, Mustang Sally was created when drummer Lisa Romeo began playing at the legendary Hall of Fame Lounge in Nashville. She decided to put a full band together using recommendations from friends across the country. Calls were made, auditions were held and things stared to fall into place. "We were looking for some really great players and we found them and they happened to all be women," says Romeo. "I think that individually and collectively we just want to be respected as musicians and entertainers, even though it may be a little tough to get around the stereotype at first." Drawing from diverse backgrounds and musical influences that range from George Jones to The Dixie Chicks, Mustang Sally has developed into a hot six-piece band that offers edgy country music with a contemporary feel and traditional roots. With a live show that sizzles, lots of attitude and polish it doesn't take much past the first song for Mustang Sally to earn the respect they seek. Lisa Pursell (a former instructor with the Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood) handles lead guitar, while Karri Lee from Los Alamos, NM plays keyboards and fiddle. Dynamic lead vocalist Jenny Farrell was born in Nashville but raised in Albuquerque. Lisa Romeo, drummer and percussionist, is from Omaha, NE and bassist Debbie Johnson is from Springfield, MO. Rounding out the group is Moundsville, WV native Renae Truex, a versatile utility player who plays twin to Karri Lee's fiddle and brings saxophone, mandolin, flute and dobro to the group. All members have a very grounded home life and prefer to spend their free time with family and friends. For Mustang Sally it all comes down to having a good time and making great music. The girls are creating a buzz around Music Row with industry executives, fellow musicians and fans they convert on the road. Mustang Sally is truly breaking the rules! |
