Jack Ingram

On Hey You, his debut for Sony/Lucky Dog, Jack Ingram makes it clear that he's a honky-tonk man in the grand tradition spanning from Merle to Earle. From his native Houston through San Antonio and Austin to his current Dallas home, Ingram has been steeped in a formative brew whipped up by the likes of Hand, Sr., Ernest Tubb, Lefty Frizzell, Waylon, Willie and Merle. Add healthy helpings of tale-spinners like Tom T. Hall, Jerry Jeff Walker and Ray Wylie Hubbard, and you've got yerself somethin' special.

Like Steve Earle, fellow-Texan Chris Wall and precious few others, Jack Ingram has managed to embrace the totality of the honky-tonk world-- making it come alive in a straight-ahead populist form. Keeping one's head centered in this high-speed modern world can be a chore, but Ingram relies on old friends to do the job for him.

Ingram either wrote or co-wrote all eleven tunes on the Hey You, enlisting the aid of such stellar tunesmiths as Bruce Robison, Todd Snider, Jim Lauderdale and Tom Littlefield. From tender ballads to bordertown serenades to toes-to-the-floorboard rump-thumpers, they hold it all together; staying true to the honky-tonk ethos and its pickup truck patron.

And now, reloaded with a new brace of kickin' tunes, Jack Ingram and his Beat Up Ford Band are chomping at the bit, ready to get back on the road.
